The High Court today granted bail to Asif Adnan Shuvo, who, as per detectives, was allegedly recruited as an Islamic State fighter, in a criminal case, clearing the way for his release from jail.

The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Abdul Awal and Justice Abu Taher Mohammad Saifur Rahman passed the order after hearing the bail petition filed by Asif.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told reporters that his office is yet to decide whether it will file an appeal with the Supreme Court against the HC bail order.

On November 10, the HC also granted anticipatory bail to Shuvo, which the SC stayed later.

Arrested on September 24, Shuvo, 26, son of former HC judge Abdus Salam Mamun, was accused under Anti-terrorism Act 2009 for “conspiring to commit terrorist and militant activities”.
