Trouble-hit Mohammedan Sporting Club salvaged a goalless draw against Chittagong Abahani, snapping their four-match losing streak in their Bangladesh Premier League fixture at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.

The Black and Whites, whose last and only points in the league before this match came in a 2-1 win against Team BJMC in their opening match, kept the port city outfit at bay in the first match since former coach Ali Asgar Nasir walked out.

The former coach had alleged that there was too much influence of team manager Amirul Islam Babu and senior player Zahid Hasan Emily over team selection and decision-making, leaving him feeling helpless during that four-match losing streak.

Although Mohammedan stepped up their game a bit in this match, they hardly created any scoring opportunities and were mostly concerned about defending. Chittagong Abahani, who are in seventh position now with nine points from seven games, had a bit more verve in their play, but failed to make anything meaningful out of their attacks.

After earning a precious point, Mohammedan's team manager and a few players took to the media to vent their anger against the former coach.

“If Emily had made team selections previously, he did so too today, so how did we get a point? We can do better without a coach like him [former coach Nasir],” Babu fumed at his dugout as the assistant coach Shahidul Islam Jewel, who dictated the charges alongside the omnipresent Babu during the match, was carefully kept out of the reach of the media.

Toklish Ahmed, one of the senior players of the side, joined in the lambasting of the former coach. “He [Nasir] did not work on our defence, which is our weakest link. In the last two days, the new coach only worked on defence and nothing else. That's why we got a point.”

The Black and Whites, who finished fifth in the league last year, are currently in ninth position with four points from six matches. The club has so far seen two coaches leave -- English coach Christopher Evans left following a futile Federation Cup before assistant coach Jewel conducted the team in the Independence Cup, where they failed to get out of group stage once again. Nasir took charge prior to the league, leaving the Motijheel outfit five matches into the campaign.

“If you can't earn results, any coach will have to walk. Even Jose Mourinho got sacked by Manchester United for poor results,” retorted another senior player Abdul Baten Mojumdar Komol, following yesterday's game.

Meanwhile, Aramabagh KS moved up to fifth position following a 1-0 win over NoFeL SC at the Rafiqe Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh yesterday. Cameroonian striker Paul Emile scored the only goal of the game, heading in Zahid Hossain's corner in the 32nd minute. The win lifted Arambagh to 12 points from seven matches while NoFeL SC remained bottom of the table with two points from six matches.
