BFF president's club uncertain in BCL!

Participation of four clubs in the upcoming Bangladesh Championship League (BCL) is seemingly hanging in the balance as Arambagh KS, NoFeL SC, Farashganj SC and Little Friends Club did not turn up on the last day of players' registration on Sunday, demanding deferment of transfer timeline by a month.

BFF president Tabith Awal and his younger brother Tajwar Awal are presidents of NoFeL and Arambagh respectively.

Bangladesh professional league management committee, headed by senior vice-president Imrul Hasan, on February 1 declared 11 out of 14 clubs eligible for the championship league following their fulfilment of club licensing.

The committee also fixed a 19-day transfer window from February 4 to 23 with the league getting underway on March 4 and concluding on May 21 following a mid-term transfer widow from April 16 to 22.

Out of the 11 eligible BCL clubs, nine have jointly appealed to the game's local governing body on February 17 to defer the transfer window by one month due to financial constraints as well as to avoid the league during the month of Ramadan.

The BFF, however, replied in the negative, further warning the clubs of three years' suspension unless they participated in the transfer window as per the bylaws.

"It is tough to maintain the team during Ramadan and not possible to ask the players to refrain from fasting. It really hampers the overall performance of the team," NoFeL's general secretary Shakhawat Hossain Shahin said, adding that they also wanted to play the league in a stadium with galleries instead of on an open-ground.

He also informed that the club would take the next step as per the club president's instructions.

"We wanted to start the league after Eid-ul-Fitr for the league to be uninterrupted while the clubs also need a good amount of money to disburse among the players before Eid," Arambagh's vice-president Ezaz Mohammad Jahangir said, adding that they would appeal to the BFF to give them a couple of days to complete registration formalities.

BFF's competitions manager Zaber bin Ansari, late on Monday night, informed that the transfer deadline has been extended till 12:00pm on February 26.
