After helping Abahani Limited win the Dhaka Premier League 2024-25 with an outstanding all-round performance, their skipper, Mosaddek Hossain, has now set eyes on making a return to the national side through a similar performance in the upcoming 'A' team series against New Zealand.

Bangladesh 'A' are set to play three one-dayers and two four-dayers against their New Zealand counterparts, starting from May 5 in Sylhet.

Mosaddek played a pivotal role in helping Abahani clinch a record 24th league title and their third on the trot. The all-rounder scored 487 runs and also ended up as the joint-highest wicket-taker of the tournament, alongside teammate Rakibul Hasan, with 30 wickets.

In Tuesday's game against rivals Mohammedan in Mirpur, the 29-year-old shone with both bat and ball as he claimed two crucial wickets -- those of Mahmudullah Riyad and Ariful Islam -- to restrict Mohammedan to 240 for seven before smashing an unbeaten 78 off 65 balls to help his side win the game with 56 balls to spare.

"Actually, if I play well, I will get opportunities," Mosaddek, who was recently named in the squad for the Bangladesh 'A' team's first two one-dayers against New Zealand, told reporters after their last DPL match today.

"There is an opportunity to play for the 'A' team. If I can do well, obviously, the selection panel will think about me. So my aim is to play well. The rest depends on them [the selectors]," he added.

Meanwhile, Mosaddek, who tasted his sixth league title with Abahani after joining them in 2013, credited the whole team for becoming champions.

"It's because of the effort of the entire team, and we are the deserving champions," said Mosaddek, who last represented Bangladesh during the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022.

Due to a change in the country's political landscape, Abahani failed to make a big budget side this year, failing to retain top cricketers like Towhid Hridoy, Liton Das, Taskin Ahmed, and Jaker Ali Anik.

"Of course, it's special [being DPL champions] as the team faced a lot of changes. We faced a lot of challenges. It's a big thing that we were able to become champions.

"I tried to stay at Abahani. The situation made it difficult for us to form a team. I was dedicated to playing for Abahani, and I thank the team management for keeping me here and supporting me.

"Our first target was to avoid relegation. When we started to win, our expectations increased. When we made it till the last stage, then we started to believe that we could become champions," he concluded.
