Jahanara’s complaint to be given ‘due importance’

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), on January 7, announced the squad for the ICC Commonwealth Games Qualifier in Malaysia, but notably, star pacer Jahanara Alam was left out of the side.
Local media reports claimed that 'disciplinary issues' were behind Jahanara's exclusion but the timing of it was at least a bit curious owing to the fact that Jahanara had handed a written complaint to the BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury a few days before her exclusion. While talking to the media today, BCB director and women's wing chairman Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel confirmed that Jahanara handed a written complaint to the BCB CEO.
According to sources, Jahanara had complained about selector Manjurul Islam and a few others. Jahanara could not be reached for comments at the time of filing this report.
Shafiul did not want to divulge the details of the disciplinary issues behind Jahanara' exclusion, reiterating that Jahanara's complaint was regarding her importance in the team.
"From what I have heard, she filed the letter directly to the CEO. I have talked to the CEO already and according to her letter, the complaint was that she was not being paid due importance. CEO have told me that he will make inquiries.
"I am asking for your [media's] help. There are a few things which, if discussed, would bring our cricket, our women's cricket to disrepute," he said.
The women's wing chairman also said that there had not been any decision regarding whether Jahanara will face further punishments or fines. He did however reiterate that Jahanara is still in their plans.
"The things you [the media] want to know, the stories that you want to hear are I believe very damaging for our cricket. Since it's a sensitive issue, I believe everyone should exercise responsibility while considering these things. I have some proof but I don't want to show them to you. Do not indulge in rumours for news purposes as it is bad for everyone concerned," Nadel requested to the media.
"No matter who the complaints were filed to, we want to take it as a positive. The CEO has assured her that the complaint will be given due importance," Nadel concluded.
The team departed for Malaysia on January 8. Jahanara, Nuzhat Tasnia and spinner Khadiza-Tul Kubra were all named as standbys.
