Tomorrow’s match against Rajshahi the final for us: Barishal's Jayed

Fortune Barishal are lingering at the bottom of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup table with just a solitary win from five matches so far. And for the Tamim Iqbal-led side, it would now require a win in the rest of their three games to give them any chance of progressing to the playoffs.

And that simple yet crucial part of the equation was realized by pacer Abu Jayed as the right-armer reiterated that their match against Minister Group Rajshahi tomorrow is rather the 'final' for them.

"Actually for us, tomorrow's match [against Rajshahi] is very important. A team that will win two or three matches will be able to play the playoffs in the tournament. In that regard, I think for us the final match is tomorrow," said Jayed after today's practice session in Mirpur.

The five-team T20 tournament will see the top four teams progressing to the playoffs, to begin from December 14.

Jayed was seen practicing bowling slowers today. And the 27-year-old had reasons behind that.

"Bowlers got most wickets through slower deliveries in the tournament. It's not like that that bowlers are taking wickets with quicker deliveries -- this has happened rarely [in the tournament so far]. Most batsmen lost their wickets in slower deliveries and due to variation in the bowling. We have been working on this," said Jayed.

In the game between Beximco Dhaka and Rajshahi on Friday, Dhaka's pacer Muktar Ali mixed it up with occasional slower deliveries as he was rewarded with four crucial wickets -- those of Rony Talukdar (40 off 24), Fazle Mahmud (58 off 40), Mahedi Hasan (1 off 4) and Forhad Reza (14 off 4). The right-armer ended with figures of four for 37 in his four overs in Dhaka's 25-run victory.

Judging by the trend, it seems as if Jayed is on the right track but the question still remains about Barishal's batting, which has been abysmal throughout the tournament. But Jayed felt that the bowlers could step up a bit more in order to help the batsmen.

"It is true that our batsmen have not been scoring runs. But if we [bowlers] too could bundle out oppositions for 80-120 like the other teams, I think that would help our batsmen get their rhythm back and the team too could have won more matches. But the bowlers are also conceding 160-170 runs. So, it would be helpful for our batsmen if we could keep the total under 140," concluded Jayed.
