Old DOHS Sports Club batsman Mahmudul Hasan Joy's blistering unbeaten knock went in vain as Soumya Sarkar and Co. guided Gazi Group to a rather comfortable six-wicket victory in their ongoing Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division T20 League encounter at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today. 

While all the other DOHS batters failed miserably and gave away their wickets cheaply, Mahmudul played his career-best T20 knock to help his side to a fighting score. The 20-year-old's unbeaten 55-ball 85 helped Old DOHS post a decent 136 for seven, a total that was easily chased down by an experienced Gazi Group.     

Coming in to chase a mediocre total, Mahedi Hasan gave Gazi Group a flying start as the right-hander smashed a quick-fire 22 off 10 deliveries before departing in the third over. Soumya Sarkar, who struck two fifties so far in the tournament, seemed to be in fantastic rhythm as the left-handed batsman raced to 30 off just 18 deliveries. 

However, Soumya later adjusted his innings according to the demands of the chase and strung together a crucial 65-run second-wicket stand with Mominul Haque to set Gazi on course for an easy victory. 

Both Soumya and Mominul departed after scoring 37 and 27 respectively but Yasir Ali's unbeaten 18-ball 24 and skipper Mahmudullah Riyad's 18-ball 19 helped Gazi get over the line with an over to spare. 

Earlier, after being sent to bat, Old DOHS suffered a batting collapse with none of their top six batsmen, except Mahmudul, managing scores of double figures. They were left struggling at five for 54 after 12.4 overs.  

But Mahmudul kept going from one end and the young right-hander plundered 40 runs off the last two overs of the innings to help his side to a decent total. Mahmudul's knock was laced with three fours and seven maximums. 

Doleshwar lose despite six-laden final over 

Meanwhile, at BKSP 3, Prime Doleshwar almost snatched an unlikely victory out of Prime Bank's gasp. Many would have thought that the game was already put to bed with Doleshwar requiring 31 off the final over. 

However, Doleshwar's Kamrul Islam had one last trick up his sleeve as the tail-ender smashed Prime Bank's national team pacer Rubel Hossain for four massive sixes to take the game down till the last ball. However, despite Kamrul's late flurry, Doleshwar fell short and eventually lost the game by just three runs. 

Electing to bat, Prime Bank managed to post a competitive 151 for seven, thanks to a fifty from Mohammad Mithun (55 off 50) and contributions from skipper Anamul Haque (29 off 18), Nahidul Islam (20 off 18) and veteran Alok Kapali (26 off 14). 

Doleshwar, who lost wickets at regular intervals, never looked to be threatening during their chase till Kamrul's last-over blitz. Kamrul remained unbeaten on 38 off 12 deliveries, a knock that featured two boundaries and four maximums. 

Salauddin fifer help Sheikh Jamal win low-scoring contest

Left-arm medium pacer Salauddin Sakil bagged a fifer to help his side Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club beat Partex Sporting Club by six wickets in a low-scoring contest at BKSP 4. 

Courtesy of Salauddin's five for 16 in his 3.3 overs, which is also his career-best T20 figures, Sheikh Jamal bundled out Partex for just a meagre 104 in 19.3 overs. 

Skipper Nurul Hasan's 32-ball 30 and Elias Sunny's unbeaten 27 helped Sheikh Jamal romp to victory with 16 balls to spare.
