BNP to observe Golden Jubilee of independence

BNP protest

BNP will observe the golden jubilee of independence in a befitting manner next year, party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said today.

“We will celebrate the 50 years of independence of the country through holding different programmes over the year,” Fakhrul came up with the announcement after a meeting of the party’s national standing committee at Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in Dhaka tonight.

To make the programme a success, BNP has formed a sub-committee headed by Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, a standing committee member of the party, Fakhrul said.

BNP standing committee members Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan and Selima Rahman have been made members of the committee, he said.

Besides, the ruling Awami League is undertaking an elaborate plan to celebrate the golden jubilee with due festivity.

Fakhrul said the highest policy-making body of the party decided to forge an effective movement pressing home demand of Khaled Zia’s immediate release from jail.

The committee also decided to put forward letters to Gambia, Nederland and Canada extending them thanks as they held Myanmar responsible for committing genocide against Rohingyas before the International Court of Justice, Fakhrul said.

BNP also welcomed the new leadership of Awami League who were elected through its council to lead the party for the next term.

“As we belong to a political party, we extend our cooperation to all political parties and welcome to them and so we are welcoming Awami League’s new leadership,” he said.
