BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today said the country is being run by the rulers’ law not by the rule of law.

“The country is being run by the ruler’s law instead of the rule of law as what the government says is law here,” Khasru came up with the allegation while addressing a programme at the National Press Club in Dhaka this afternoon.

Claiming that the arrest warrant issued against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia as a part of the deep-rooted conspiracy of the ruling quarter Khasru said, “Ruler is now making laws as per its whim and using theses to serve its own purpose.”

On November 30, a Dhaka court cancelled ad interim bail of Khaleda Zia and issued arrest warrant against her as she failed to appear before it amid hartal called by some left-leaning parties protesting the recent hike of power tariff.

Describing the government as unelected, the BNP leader urged the government to return to the right track of democracy that can pave the way in arranging the next general election in a free, fair and credible manner.

He said the government is trying to establish its absolute control on the judiciary to meet its evil design.

Khasru said the government has forced Chief Justice SK Sinha to quit as he was trying to establish justice and upholding independence in the judiciary.

About the Rohingya repatriation agreement signed with Myanmar, Khashru said the government will never be able to implement the agreement.

“The government has signed the deal only to garner people’s supports ahead of the next general election,” the BNP leader added.
