The High Court has fixed Thursday (tomorrow) for delivering order on a writ-petition that challenged two police officers for posting personal photographs of Shipra Debnath along with provocative comments on Facebook.

The bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam set the date for passing the order after a virtual hearing on the issue.

The HC bench will hold another hearing on few legal points before delivering order on the petition, writ petitioner Barrister Manoj Kumar Bhowmick told The Daily Star today.

Manoj also said he talked to Shipra over a video call and she voiced her support in favour of moving the writ petition before the HC.

During the hearing, Deputy Attorney General Tushar Kanti Roy told the court the petition is not acceptable as it has been filed as a public interest litigation by a lawyer who is not the victim.

Barrister Manoj, a Supreme Court lawyer, on August 16 submitted the writ petition as a public interest litigation seeking HC order on the authorities concerned of the government to conduct a probe and take proper action against police officers responsible for posting the photographs on Facebook.

In the petition, the lawyer said the police officer's actions were illegal as it maligned Shipra Debnath's character.

He submitted the writ petition based on a report published on The Daily Star on August 16 under the headline "Cyberbullying now adds to her trauma."

Superintendent of Police Mostafijur Rahman of Satkhira shared some of her pictures on his Facebook profile on August 14 and hinted that some more pictures may come. Another post was made by Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Shelley, SP (Dhaka Metro - South) of the Police Bureau of Investigation, who also authored crime fiction books. He tried to justify the case filed against Shipra by sharing photos of her.
