DMP issues security, traffic guidelines for Pahela Baishakh celebrations

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced a series of security and traffic measures ahead of the Pahela Baishakh celebrations on April 14, aiming to ensure a safe and orderly environment.

According to a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali, the DMP has finalised plans for the Mangal Shobhajatra now renamed as Anondo Shobhajatra, the procession organised by the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dhaka University.

The procession will begin from the Faculty of Fine Arts premises, pass through Shahbagh, TSC, Shibbari Crossing, Ramna Crossing, and Doel Chattar, before returning to the starting point. Authorities have urged visitors to strictly adhere to the designated access routes to avoid congestion and confusion.

Visitors from the Hotel Intercontinental area have been asked to approach via Shahbagh and Katabon, and then proceed to Nilkhet to enter the procession route near the VC Bungalow.

Those arriving from New Market and Palashi areas can also enter via Nilkhet. Similarly, participants from Chankharpul and Bakshi Bazar are advised to take the Palashi route to reach the VC Bungalow zone.

In addition to the security arrangements, the DMP has announced traffic restrictions and diversions that will be in place from 5:00am that day.

Roads around Ramna Park, Suhrawardy Udyan, and Dhaka University will be closed or diverted to manage the expected crowd and ensure public safety.

Major intersections such as Banglamotor, Police Headquarters Crossing, Sugandha, Kakrail Church, Kadam Fountain, the High Court area, Doel Chattar, Ramna Crossing, and Nilkhet will be off-limits for vehicles during the celebrations.

Alternative routes have been suggested for vehicular movement.

Vehicles approaching from Mirpur-Farmgate towards Shahbagh are advised to use the Moghbazar route via Banglamotor. Those from Golap Shah Mazar or the High Court area are advised to divert through Kadam Fountain, UBL, and Nightingale crossings.

Traffic from Science Laboratory will be rerouted through Azimpur, Chankharpul, and Bakshi Bazar.

To accommodate the anticipated surge in visitors, several temporary parking areas have been designated. These include: Nedi Gap to Holy Family Hospital, Matsya Bhaban to Segunbagicha, inside Shilpakala Academy lane, Katabon to Palashi via Nilkhet, Doel Chattar to Shahidullah Hall, and Abdul Gani Road.
