A court in Chattogram today ordered Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the murder case of Chhatra League central leader Diaz Irfan Chowdhury, after the CID had earlier submitted a final report.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Awlad Hossain Junaid ordered PBI to investigate the case through a senior officer after Diaz's mother Jaheda Amin lodged a no-confidence petition on the final report submitted by CID.

After investigating the case for six years, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), in its final report submitted on February 24 said the murder case of Diaz has "factual errors".

Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdus Salam Mia of CID Chattogram, also investigation officer of the case, placed the report to the GRO section of the court, said court sources.

Confirming the matter, Chattogram CID Special Superintendent of Police Shawnewaz Khaled told The Daily Star, "After investigation, the IO mentioned it in the final report of the case statement."

He declined to disclose more details about the report.

Diaz was found hanging in his flat near CU campus on November 20, 2016. His family then filed a murder case against 10 Chhatra League members of CU unit and a former assistant proctor of the university.
