U-19s lose fourth one-day

Bangladesh U-19 cricket team, which already clinched the five-match one-day series with three wins in the first three matches, succumbed to their first defeat of the tour, losing by four wickets against New Zealand U-19s at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Lincoln.

Having been sent in to bat first, Bangladesh put on a formidable 295 runs on the board for the loss of eight wickets. Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon provided a strong foundation with a 71-run opening stand before the former fell after a breezy 44-ball 51. The young Tigers lost a few wickets in the middle overs but Parvez's 82-ball 55 held the Kiwis back before Tawhid Hridoy and skipper Akbar Ali wretched momentum back towards Bangladesh with a 104-run partnership for the fifth wicket off 84 deliveries.

Tawhid struck a team-high 73 off 77 while Akbar ensured a strong finish at the end, remaining unbeaten on a quick-fire 66 off 44 deliveries.

Shoriful Islam struck early for Bangladesh early in the New Zealand innings before opener OJ White (45) and in-form Fergus Lellman (76) combined in a 122-run second wicket stand. Asadullah Galib removed both batsmen to put some pressure on the Kiwis but JM Tashkoff hit an unbeaten 66 under pressure to take New Zealand U-19s across the finish line with four wickets to spare and clinch their first win in this series.
