The High Court today granted anticipatory bail for eight weeks to daily Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman in 10 separate cases including sedition and defamation cases.

The HC bench of Justice Md Miftah Uddin Choudhury and Justice Abu TaherMdSaifur Rahman came up with the orders of bail after hearing 10 petitions filed by Mahmudur Rahman seeking bail in the cases.

Mahmudur appeared before the HC bench today for bail in the cases.

The cases were filed at different places, as Mahmudur Rahman made “derogatory remarks” about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after taking part in a seminar on restoration of democracy and the role of media, on December 1 last year, Deputy Attorney General Shaikh AKM MoniruzzamanKabir told The Daily Star.

He also said the government will move two appeals before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court against the HC orders of bail in two cases.
