Not going anywhere until the job is done: Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud

Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud said today that the interim government would not quit before its tasks are complete.

"We are not going anywhere until our job is done," said Mahmud while briefing reporters after an unscheduled session of the cabinet following the regular Ecnec meeting at the Planning Commission.

When reporters asked about Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus's resignation as reported widely in the media, the planning adviser said, "But he did not say he was leaving. He said that there are many obstacles in the work we are doing and in the responsibility that has been given to us. But we will overcome all the obstacles," Mahmud told journalists after a meeting of the advisers at the NEC conference room in the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

He stressed on the weight of responsibility borne by the interim government, saying, "The future of the country for many years will depend on it. We cannot leave this responsibility."

The meeting, which began around 12:20pm, focused on identifying and addressing the obstacles hampering progress across ministries.

"We are seeing what obstacles are coming from different places, who is facing what, and what barriers arise as we move forward," said Mahmud.

The adviser emphasised the need for support from all quarters, including political parties, the administration, the judiciary, and state institutions.

"We will call on all the forces in favour of the mass uprising and all state organisations to help us achieve this goal. This is not our sole responsibility."

He added that while the advisers had not come voluntarily, they had been entrusted with a national responsibility and would not abandon it.

The adviser did not confirm whether the meeting included any discussion on the roadmap of the national election.
