Ishraque’s oath-taking: Local Government Division awaits court verdict

The Local Government Division is awaiting the Supreme Court's verdict before proceeding with the swearing-in of Ishraque Hossain as mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), according to a press release issued this morning.

The press release signed by Md Salauddin, public relations officer of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, said the legal wing of the division informed today that preparations were underway to administer the oath to Ishraque following the High Court's dismissal of a writ petition on May 22.

However, Ishraque filed a fresh writ petition on May 25, seeking an order from the High Court to be sworn in as mayor, the release said.

Additionally, yesterday, a leave to appeal petition was submitted to the Appellate Division by a citizen, challenging the High Court's dismissal of an earlier petition.

"As a result, the matter is now sub judice before the highest court. Therefore, the Local Government Division is currently awaiting the court's verdict before proceeding with Ishraque Hossain's swearing-in," the statement added.
