Bodies of two brothers recovered days after drowning in Brahmaputra

The bodies of two young brothers, who went missing while bathing in the Brahmaputra river in Ulipur upazila of Kurigram, were recovered this morning.

The deceased were identified as Ibrahim Ali, 12, and Imran Hossain, 8, sons of Aminul Islam from Deldarganj area of the upazila, said Zillur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ulipur Police Station.

Local residents found the bodies near Paler Ghat area, around three kilometres downstream from where the incident took place on Saturday afternoon, he said.

The siblings had gone bathing in the river at Char Jalangarkuti area and were swept away by a strong current, he added.

Despite extensive search efforts by locals and a fire service diving team over the last two days, the bodies remained missing until this morning.

The OC added that police conducted preliminary inquiries and later handed over the bodies to the family.
