A BNP leader in Dhamrai has been hacked to death, allegedly by opponents over a soil trade dispute and dominance in local politics.

The deceased, Abul Kashem (50), was senior vice-president of Gangutia union unit of BNP.

The victim's son Kamrul Hasan said that his father was killed over a dispute regarding soil trade and local politics

Describing the incident, he said that around 10:30am today, 8 to 10 people, allegedly local BNP and AL members, attacked his father with a machete on the road, seriously injuring him.

Later, the victim was brought to Enam Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Merajur Rehan Pavel, a doctor at the emergency department at the hospital, told The Daily Star that Abul Kashem had multiple deep wounds on his right leg and back. It is believed that he died due to excessive bleeding.

Dhamrai Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Monirul Islam told the Daily Star, "Efforts are underway to identify those involved in the incident. No case has been filed yet."
