No reason to delay polls beyond Dec

BNP sees no reason to delay the national election beyond December, said the party's standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan yesterday.
"We do not see any obstacle to holding the election by December since the Election Commission has said they will be ready by June," he told reporters after a meeting with the Labour Party at the BNP Chairperson's office in the capital's Gulshan area.
He said if any party disagrees with BNP's position, they should explain why further delay would be necessary.
After the meeting with BNP, Labour Oarty Chairman Mostafizur Rahman said, "Our demand is to hold the national election by December. For this, the government must formulate a roadmap."
BNP also held a separate meeting with leaders of the Jatiyatabadi Somomona Jote at the party chairperson's Gulshan office, where both sides reiterated their demand for the election to be held within December.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the alliance's coordinator Fariduzzaman Farhad said, "We want the election to be held by December. The chief adviser has already said multiple times that the election will be held by December. But now he's saying December to June. In February, there's Ramadan, followed by exams in March. April and May bring monsoon conditions, making elections difficult. That's why we want the election held by December, and the government should provide a roadmap."
