DU JCD leader stabbed to death near Suhrawardy Udyan

A Dhaka University student was stabbed to death near Suhrawardy Udyan late last night.
The deceased, Shahriar Alam Shammo, 25, was the literature and publication secretary of the Sir AF Rahman Hall unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
Inspector Muhammad Faruk, in-charge of the police outpost at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Shammo was bleeding profusely when he was brought to the hospital by his classmates around midnight. Doctors later pronounced him dead.
He sustained a sharp weapon injury to his right leg, the inspector said, adding that his body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy.
Ashraful Islam Rafi, a fellow student, said Shammo, hailing from Ullapara in Sirajganj, was a student of the Institute of Education and Research (2018–19 session) and a resident of Room 222 of the dormitory.
Rafi said Shammo was riding his motorcycle near Suhrawardy Udyan when it collided with another bike. This led to an altercation and a scuffle. At one point, an unidentified individual stabbed him in the right thigh before fleeing.
The DU unit of JCD confirmed the incident in a message.
Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khaled Mansur said police are trying to identify and arrest the suspect.
