A man was killed in an attack allegedly carried out by a teen gang in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur early yesterday.

The deceased, Hasibul Islam, 40, hailed from Barishal. He was the owner of Maa Moni Pharmacy in the Masjid Mor area of Sreepur.

Police detained two individuals in connection with the incident, said Zainal Abedin Mandal, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station.

Quoting eyewitnesses, the OC said Hasibul was visiting his father-in-law's house at Keowa Paschim Khanda village after returning from Dhaka around 3:00am, when 8 to 10 members of a local teen gang attacked him.

The assailants, allegedly intoxicated, struck him in the chest with bricks, leaving him critically injured, the OC added.

He was rushed to Al-Hera Medical College Hospital but was later transferred to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.

Shimul Hossain, Hasibul's driver, said, "After I parked the car in front of the house, the gang members started behaving aggressively. They then started harassing the women in the car, and then assaulted me when I stepped out."

Hasibul's wife, Mahmuda Akter Maleka, said, "After we entered the house, the attackers forced their way in and killed my husband. They also harassed my sister and me."
