Ishraque's lawyer sends reminder notice to LGRD ministry

Lawyer of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain has served a reminder notice on the secretary at the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD), asking to administer him oath as Dhaka South City Corporation mayor by today.
Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, also a BNP leader and president of Supreme Court Bar Association, said in the notice that appropriate legal action will be taken against the LGRD secretary if his office does not administer the mayoral oath to Ishraque under the relevant law.
The notice was sent this morning following a previous legal notice that was issued on May 21.
Meanwhile, supporters of Ishraque and a section of DSCC employees resumed their protest in front of the Nagar Bhaban, demanding that Ishraque be officially appointed as mayor without further delay.
The protest, which resumed following a 48-hour pause, has brought citizen services to a standstill, causing widespread inconvenience for city dwellers.
The main gates of the building remain locked. Under the banner of "Dhakabashi," Ishraque's supporters marched through the compound at intervals. After each procession in the morning, they gathered at the entrance, chanting slogans in support of Ishraque.
Ishraque's supporters have been demonstrating since May 14 demanding that he be sworn in and given the responsibilities of the city mayor.
