A Dhaka court today placed former lawmaker of Manikgaj-2 constituency and singer Momtaz Begum on a four-day remand in a case filed over the murder of one Md Sagor in Dhaka's Mirpur area during quota reform protests on July 19 last year.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jewel Rana passed the order as police produced Momtaz before the court with a seven-day remand prayer in the case, said a court staffer.

Today, Momtaz was brought to a crammed courtroom of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court amid tight security for the remand hearing.

Earlier, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Momtaz Begum from the city's Dhanmondi area last night.

On October 30 last year, the victim's mother, Beauty Akter, filed a murder case with the court against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 241 others.

On November 27 that year, the officer-in-charge of Mirpur Model Police Station registered it as the First Information Report (FIR) as per the court's directions.
