Ex-home secretary Jahangir placed on 2-day remand

A Dhaka court has granted a two-day remand for former home secretary Jahangir Alam in connection with the death of a protester in the capital's Bangshal area.
The order came in a case filed over the death of Sheikh Mehedi Hasan Junaid during mass demonstrations on August 5 last year.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Minhazur Rahman passed the order today after police sought a five-day remand for interrogation, according to a sub-inspector assigned to the court.
The victim's father Sheikh Jamal Hossain, 53, filed a murder case with the court on August 28 last year against former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun and four others.
Following the court's direction, the officer-in-charge of Bangshal Police Station registered the complaint as a First Information Report (FIR) on September 5.
