Attack on retired army man: 3 arrested in Narsingdi

Three individuals were arrested last night by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on charges of attacking and injuring a retired army man on April 2.

The arrests were made from Cox's Bazar, Rab-11 (Narsingdi) Commander Sadman Ibn Alam disclosed the information this afternoon.

The arrestees are Mostafizur Rahman Papon, member secretary of Palash upazila unit of JCD; Aman Ullah Aman, convener of Ghorashal municipality unit of JCD; and its Member Secretary Ariful Islam Arif.

Rab-11 Commander Sadman said, "The three were arrested in connection with the assault and attack on the retired army official. They have been handed over to the police this afternoon. Their political identity is not the main concern — they were arrested as criminals."

JCD's Narsingdi District Organising Secretary Sajib Bhuiyan said, "They were not involved in any recent activities of the district Chhatra Dal unit. Someone may have informally referred to them as Chhatra Dal leaders. But their wrongdoing is their own responsibility. If the allegations are proven, the district unit of Chhatra Dal will take legal action."

Earlier on April 10, retired army sergeant Md Mozammel Haque filed a case with the Palash Police Station. He is from Balia village in in the upazila.
