Woman killed in road accident while taking ailing father to hospital

A woman was killed in a head-on collision between a microbus and a truck on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway in Faridpur's Madhukhali upazila today while taking her ailing father to the hospital.

The deceased is Shukla Biswas, 32, of Langolbad village in Sreepur upazila of Magura.

Her father, Monohor Biswas, 85, and elder sister, Parul Biswas, 45, were injured in the accident and admitted to the Madhukhali Upazila Health Complex, said police.

According to police and fire service sources, Monohor Biswas, who was seriously ill, was being taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital in a microbus accompanied by his two daughters.

Around 11:30am, the vehicle collided head-on with a Magura-bound truck in the Boalia area, leaving Shukla dead on the spot.

Md Rashedul Alam, station officer of Madhukhali Fire Service, said they recovered Shukla's body and handed it over to the highway police.

Meanwhile, Kobir Sardar, residential medical officer at Madhukhali Upazila Health Complex, confirmed that the injured were admitted in critical condition.

Md Salauddin Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Karimpur Highway Police Station, said preliminary investigation suggests that the microbus was in the wrong lane, which led to the collision.

The truck involved in the accident has been seized and legal procedures are underway, he added.
