6 killed in Feni road crash

At least six people were killed and nine others injured when a covered-van hit a pick-up in Feni's Sadar upazila this evening.

Five of the deceased were identified as Md Arif, Jahangir, Shohag, Nur Uddin, and Nazmul. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Feni Sadar General Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Harunur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Mohipal Highway Police Station. 

The identity of the sixth person could not be known immediately.

The accident took place around 7:30pm in the Hafizia area on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway when the covered-van hit the pick-up, said the OC, adding that five people died on the spot when the pick-up overturned upon impact.

Arif died on the way to a hospital. The injured were being treated at a nearby hospital, he added.

Quoting witnesses and locals, the OC said the pick-up was ferrying construction workers.

Meanwhile, Feni Additional Deputy Commissioner Ismail Hossain said on behalf of Deputy Commissioner Saiful Islam, the district administration would provide Tk 20,000 as humanitarian assistance to each of the deceased's family for burial.

Necessary financial assistance will also be provided for the treatment of the injured, he added.
