Ananya awards 10 women

Bi-monthly periodical Ananya yesterday declared the ten winners of the annual award they hand out to women who make special contributions to the society.
The “Ananya Shirsha Dosh" was handed over at a ceremony held at Bangladesh National Museum in Dhaka.
Dhaka University Professor Mahfuza Khanam received the award for her role as a woman leader.  DohaTech New Media chairperson Luna Doha was honoured for innovations in technology.
Khorsheda Begum received the award as she formed a woman patrol team to prevent timber-robbery at a nature park in Teknaf. Meghna Guhathakurta, executive director of Research Initiative, Bangladesh was honoured for her development work.
Ferdousi Qadri, director of Centre for Vaccine Science at icddr,b, was awarded for her research on bacteria while awardee Kashfia Ahmed took many initiatives to boost the agriculture sector. Additional Police Commissioner Mili Biswas and journalist Farzana Rupa were also awarded.
Awardee Nurunnahar Begum pioneered a network for acid-survivors while Chondona Majumder received the honour for her dedication to music. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu and Ananya Editor Tasmima Hossain also spoke.
