Baby Zaman passes away


Film actor Baby Zaman is no more.
The veteran artist had been suffering from complications related to kidney and liver for several years.
He was taken to Intensive Care Unit of Bangladesh Medical Hospital in the capital on January 4 as his condition deteriorated, his son Saiduzzaman Rozen told The Daily Star last night.
Baby Zaman, famous for playing supporting characters on the silver screen, breathed his last around 1:45pm on Friday at the hospital. He was 78.
He was laid to rest at the graveyard on Taj Mahal road of Mohammadpur after Esha prayers on Friday.
Zaman left behind wife Rawshan Ara Zaman, two sons, one daughter and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn him.
Born in Kolkata in 1933, he was named Badruzzaman.
His family shifted to Dhaka in 1953 and started living in Gendaria. He became involved with theatre and came in touch with cultural personalities like Subhash Dutta, Shawkat Akbar and Hasan Imam, writes Prothom Alo.
He never looked back after making his debut as a motion picture actor in Megh Bhanga Rod (1964).
Baby Zaman appeared in more than 50 movies that include Jibon Theke Neya, 13 Feku Ostagar Lane and Kagojer Nouka. He also produced three feature films.
The family has arranged a milad mehfil tomorrow after Maghrib prayers at his Lalmatia residence, said Rozen.
