Filmmaking workshop by Shilpakala Academy and Moviyana

Thirty-two participants received certificates after a successful completion of a three-month digital filmmaking workshop jointly organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and Moviyana Film Society. The event was held at the newly built auditorium of the National Art Gallery, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on January 16. The ceremony was followed by screening of four short films made by some of the participants of the workshop.
At the ceremony, filmmaker Masihuddin Shaker pointed out the necessity of such workshops and advised the participants to apply such experiences not only in filmmaking but also in nation building.
Shaker along with fellow filmmakers Syed Salahuddin Zaki and Morshedul Islam as well as photographer-cinematographer Anwar Hossain were present at the event as guests. Liaquat Ali Lucky, director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, chaired the event. Belayet Hossain, chief of Moviyana, delivered the welcome speech.
The workshop commenced on April 28 last year and continued for three consecutive months. A total of 25 teachers delivered lectures in 48 classes on different topics such as film history, aesthetics, operating the camera, editing etc.
Among the participants of the workshop were: Aratrik Bakshi, Khandakar Khadijatul Kobra, Umme Honey, Sharif Reza Mahmud, Audri Hridaesh, Sazzad Hossain, Protik Nur, Humayun Kabir, Sumaya Islam, Mansura Parveen and Raju Ahmed.
Among the teachers were: Masihuddin Shaker, Yasmin Kabir, Professor Fahmidul Kabir and Sabrina Sultana.
The four films, made by the participants, screened at the event were: “Ujan Jatra”, Nipatoney Shiddho”, “Phaand” and “Flowers in the Naked City”.
“Ujan Jatra” is a 22-minute documentary jointly directed by Aratrik Bakshi, Sharif Reza Mahmud and Audri Hridaesh. Sazzad Hossain and Protik Nur have jointly directed the eight-minute short feature “Nipatoney Shiddho”.
The other films -- “Faand” and “Flowers in the Naked City” -- are short features as well, and have been respectively directed by Humayun Kabir and Sumaya Islam.
