Ex-official of parliament secretariat co-accused


The Anti-Corruption Commission yesterday pressed charges against former speaker Jamir Uddin Sircar and a former official of the Parliament Secretariat in two cases in connection with misappropriating Tk 33 lakh.
The official, Ashraf-ul-Islam, former chief accounts officer, is now posted at the post and telecommunications ministry.
Meanwhile, the ACC granted approval for submitting charge sheet in a case filed against former Dhaka City Corporation mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka in connection with misappropriating Tk 26 lakh and causing a loss of another Tk 11 lakh to the public exchequer.
Mohammad Moniruzzaman Khan, ACC deputy director and also the investigation officer of the two cases, submitted the charge sheets to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka.
In one case, Jamir Uddin along with Ashraf was accused of misappropriating over Tk 27 lakh in the name of medical check-up abroad.
While in another case, the ACC accused Jamir Uddin and late Khandaker Delwar Hossain, former chief whip, of abusing their power for misappropriating furniture and other goods worth over Tk 6 lakh supplied by the Parliament Secretariat.
The IO dropped Delwar Hossain's name from the charge sheet as he is dead.
The ACC lodged the cases with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on December 28, 2010. On February 15 this year, the ACC filed the case against Khoka with Shahbagh Police Station.
