At least 20 people were injured in the port city in a clash between activists of two rival groups of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, the youth front of BNP, during a rally marking the fall of HM Ershad on December 6.
Jubo Dal city unit organised the rally in front of BNP city unit office at Nasiman Bhaban.
Witnesses said the clash ensued as the activists of Jubo Dal leaders Kazi Belal, and Dipti started chanting slogans against each other when a procession led by Dipti entered the venue at around 4:30pm.
The party insiders said Kazi Belal is loyal to BNP city unit President Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Dipti is close to General Secretary Dr Shahadat Hossain.
The rival activists threw chairs and bricks at each other in presence of Amir Khasru and Dr Shahadat turning the venue and the adjoining road into a battlefield.
Later, police rushed there and brought the situation under control, said Sub-inspector Iqbal Hossain of Kotwali Police Station adding that none was arrested in this regard.
