Outgoing Myanmarese Ambassador to Bangladesh U Pha Thann made a farewell call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Gono Bhaban yesterday.
During the call they discussed the issue of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.
Thanking the Myanmar government for the release of its opposition leader Aung Sun Sukyi, Hasina termed the release the victory of democracy and human rights.
Later, Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Abul Kalam Azad told journalists that the Myanmar envoy praised the able leadership of Hasina in ensuring good governance, establishing human rights and empowerment of women in Bangladesh.
He also lauded the role of Hasina at different international fora in combating the adverse impact of global climate change.
Hasina said her government wants to maintain friendly and peaceful relations with all neighbouring countries, including Myanmar.
The prime minister accepted the invitation of Myanmar to visit Yangon at a convenient time in the future.
