Homage to designer Shahrukh Shahid

Country's leading designers, artists and singers paid tributes to the late designer-artist Shahrukh Shahid at an exhibition and fashion show displaying Shahid's works at the Drik Gallery, Dhaka on April 18.
The exhibition was jointly inaugurated by Mamunur Rashid and Subarna Mustafa.
The event was marked by publication of a memorial on Shahrukh Shahid, titled "Bondhu Tomaye Khuji, Tumi Je Rangdhanur-i Bashinda", unveiled by senior designer Chandra Shekhor Saha and the late designer's family members.
The newly formed Shahrukh Shahid Foundation was introduced on the occasion.
Singers Fahmida Nabi, Mehrin, Shawjeeb, Milon and Munni dedicated their songs to Shahid while Sharmin Lucky recited a number of poems written by him.
In between songs and recitation, models walked the ramp displaying designs by Shahid.
Elder brother of Shahrukh Shahid and City Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Shahriar Shahid; Convenor of the Shahrukh Shahid Foundation Khandakar Jamil Uddin; Mamunur Rashid; Subarna Mustafa; Chandra Shekhor Saha, leading beautician and editor of the magazine Canvas Kaniz Almas; designer Emdad Huq and Shahrukh's younger sister Sharmin Shahid recalled their memories of the late designer-artist.
Later, the foundation announced the Shahrukh Shahid Award-2010 to
Deshi Dosh, a coalition of 10 leading fashion houses in recognition of their contribution to the local fashion industry.
Mother of Shahrukh Shahid and writer Kazi Shamsun Nahar handed over the crest to the designers of the Deshi Dosh.
The Shahrukh Shahid Foundation would work to facilitate and promote young designers and artists to explore new talents in the creative fields, according to sources.
Shahrukh Shahid passed away last February.
