On the evening of November 8, rock and pop music fans were in for a treat. Bangladeshi rock music icon, Faruk Mahfuz Anam aka James and popular Pakistani pop singer, Shehzad Roy performed at the Winter Garden, Dhaka Sheraton Hotel.
The event was jointly organised by the Pakistan High Commission and MACOMM Resolve.
The concert started around 8:10 pm. First to perform was James, starting with Lace fita lace. Next he rendered Deewana deewana, tomar prem-e deewana and Shobai boley oi akashey lukiye achhey. Chal chaley was also a part of the repertoire, as well as Meera bai and Alvida (from the film Life in a Metro). James wrapped up his performance with his breakthrough Bollywood hit Bheegi bheegi (from the film Gangster).
Shehzad Roy took to the stage next. The artiste opened his performance with the song Aag. This was Shehzad's first show in Bangladesh. The pop singer is quite popular in India thanks to the success of his recent song Sali tu mani nahi. So far he has toured and performed in USA, Canada, UK, UAE, Qatar, India, Norway, Denmark and Ireland. His tour in Bangladesh was an initiative by the Pakistan High Commission to promote cultural exchange between the two countries.
Shehzad rendered his popular songs Sali tu mani nahi, Teri soorat, Tere pyar me sharmana and more. The performance also included the Bryan Adams song Summer of 69. Shehzad has had the opportunity of performing the song with Bryan Adams in Karachi, Pakistan during a concert.
Warid Telecom was the title sponsor of the programme. The event was co-sponsored by Panasonic in association with Nestle Bangladesh Limited and Dragonair/ Cathay Pacific. Banglavision and Radio Foorti were the media partners of the show. Amader Gaan was the web partner. The concert was a semi-commercial initiative. Part of the proceeds is set be donated to an organisation for differently-abled children.
A special performance by the artiste was held at the same venue at 4:00 pm the same day. The show was hosted by the Pakistan High Commission for differently-abled youth from several rehabilitation organisations and underprivileged students from different educational institutes in Dhaka.
