The
Route that
Could Make a
Difference
 |
When
the circular waterways planned by the BIWTA was finally
inaugurated last month, many heaved a sigh of relief.
It has the potential to ease the dreadful gridlock on
Dhaka roads, or so most of the Dhakaites thought. However,
to the sheer dismay of the people living in the outskirts
of the capital, who could do with an alternative mode
of transportation, the service is a let down. The Swarighat
to Ashulia route is itself an impractical proposition,
as it takes more than three hours to reach from one end
to the other. However, with speedier and modernised ferries,
the proposed route can become an alternative to the existing
road transportation routes once it gets started in full
swing.
