Free heatstroke centre opens at DNCC Covid-19 Hospital in Mohakhali

In order to combat the ongoing heatwave sweeping across the capital, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) today launched a 25-bed Heatstroke Centre at its designated Covid-19 Hospital in Mohakhali.
The facility is offering free medical treatment to patients suffering from heat-related illnesses.
While speaking at the inauguration, DNCC's Chief Health Officer Brig Gen Imrul Kayes Chowdhury said the centre is prepared to expand if necessary.
He said, "If the number of patients rises, the number of beds will be increased. Intensive Care Unit (ICU) facilities are available on the hospital's second floor, and arrangements are in place to transfer patients in critical condition."
He also noted that the city corporation currently operates five ambulances, which are available to citizens in need of emergency transport. "Anyone requiring ambulance support can call us directly," he added.
With a severe heatwave continuing to affect Dhaka, the initiative is a part of the DNCC's broader effort to minimise public health risks—specially in densely built-up areas prone to extreme heat.
Additionally, the newly launched heatstroke services have been integrated into the national emergency hotline 999. Citizens can call 999 for information and assistance regarding heat-related medical care.
Health officials continue to advise the public to stay indoors during peak heat hours, remain well-hydrated, and seek medical attention at the first sign of heat heatstroke or exhaustion.
