Theatre festival concludes at JKKNIU

A nine-day theatre festival organised on the campus of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) in Mymensingh concluded today.

The festival, now in its ninth edition, was organised by final-year honours students of the Theatre and Performance Studies Department as part of their practical coursework, according to university sources.

Inaugurated on May 4, the festival featured a total of 18 plays staged at the university auditorium, which drew full-house audiences throughout the event.

Among the performances, Kantatarer Projapoti -- based on Selina Hossain's novel and adapted and directed by Polalb Kumar Biswas, a final-year student -- was staged with participation from students across various departments.

Other plays, including Question Mark, Bikkhon, Doll's House, Kokilara, Eti Binodini, Pakhi, Atoshi Mami, and Verses of Blood and Fire, were also adapted, directed, and performed by students of the department and received enthusiastic applause from the audience.

"The festival was very enjoyable and will help us in creating future productions," said participating students.

Mazharul Hossain Tokder, assistant professor at the Theatre and Performance Studies Department and anchor of the festival, said the event serves as a practical platform to develop students' creative skills and prepare them for careers in theatre.

"At a time when we lack refined tastes in creative works, this festival contributes to enriching our culture and tradition through the dedication of young artistes," he added.
