Vandalising sculpture of Bangabandhu: four arrestees sent to jail

Four persons including two madrasa students, who were arrested on charges of damaging an under construction sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kushtia, were sent to jail today.
Both students are aged 14 while two others -- Alamin (33) and Yusuf (38) -- are teachers of Masud (R:) Madrasa in Kushtia town's Jugia area.
The district's Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Rezaul Islam passed the order after police produced the four and sought remand for them in the afternoon, our local correspondent reports quoting Kushtia's Additional Superintendent of Police Mostafizur Rahman.
Police submitted 10 days' remand prayer for the two students and four days for the two teachers, he said.
The court however fixed tomorrow to hear the remand prayer.
During interrogation, the two students admitted that they vandalised the sculpture on Friday night after they were inspired by the recent anti-sculpture statements from Hefajat-e-Islam leaders Mamunul Haque and Faizul Haque, officials told a press briefing at Kushtia Police Lines yesterday.
