‘Cattle lifter’ beaten dead in Pirojpur

An alleged cattle lifter was beaten to death by a mob in Najirpur upazila of Pirojpur early today.  

Deceased Jamal Hawladar, 48, was accused in seven cases including those of murder, arms and theft, said SM Ziaul Haque, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pirojpur Sadar Police Station.

Locals caught Jamal and gave him a good beating when he was passing Sreeramkati area by a trawler with four lifted cows, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports quoting police.

The angry mob left the scene leaving the injured cattle lifter on the trawler in Humarhat area.

A night guard saw injured Jamal on the trawler around 1:00am and informed police, who sent him to Pirojpur General Hospital, where he succumbed at about 7:15am today.

There were several marks of bruise on Jamal’s body and he died due to mass beating, said Istiaq Ahmed, a doctor of the hospital.  

Four cows and a trawler were seized in this incident, said Sub Inspector Moniruzzaman of Sadar Police Station. 

Jamal hailed from Kumirmara village under Sadar upazila.
