Covid-19: number of cases crosses 2 lakh mark

Two thousand seven hundred and nine people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

With them, the total number of cases in the country is 202,066 and the current infection rate is 24.8 percent, according to DGHS.

The total infection rate stands at 19.86 percent.

Thirty-four people have died from coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said during a briefing today.

The death toll now stands at 2,581 and the death rate at 1.28 percent.

A total of 10,923 samples were tested in 80 labs across the country in the last 24 hours, Dr Nasima said.

Bangladesh remains the 17th worst affected country in the world in terms of the number of cases.

The position is one step ahead of Colombia and one step behind Germany, according to worldometer.info. 

Meanwhile, 1,373 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, the DGHS said today.

The total number of recoveries stands at 1,10,098 and the recovery rate at 54.49 percent.

A total of 779 people were put under isolation in the last 24 hours.

Among the deceased, 29 were male while 14 were from Dhaka, three from Chattogram, four from Sylhet, one from Mymensingh, one from Barishal, five from Rajshahi and six were from Khulna division.

Of them, one was between 21-30 years old, one between 31-40, one within 41-50, 15 between 51-60, five between 61-70, 10 within 71-80 and one was 81-90 years old, Dr Nasima also said.
