The High Court yesterday directed Department of Immigration and Passports to issue a passport to Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) Vice President Nurul Haque Nur in three days. 

The bench of Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore and Justice Mohammad Ullah delivered the verdict following a writ petition filed by Nur, seeking its order on the authorities concerned over issuing him a passport.

Deputy Attorney General Abu Yahia Dulal said the department will have to issue a passport for Nur in three days. Full text of the HC verdict was not released yesterday.

According to the petition, Nur submitted relevant papers for passport in July, 2019 to the department. They, however, refused to issue one, saying that there are cases against him.

Nur submitted the petition to the HC in August, 2019, challenging legality of its refusal.

Following the petition, the HC in January issued a rule, asking authorities to explain why they should not be directed to issue a passport to Nur.
