The government yesterday named poet Nirmalendu Goon for the Swadhinata Padak (Independence Award) 2016 in recognition of his contribution to literature.

A total of 15 individuals and an organisation have won the award this year, and the government named 14 individuals and the organisation on March 7.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to present the awards to the winners on March 24.
