Former student gets job at RU before results

A former student of Rajshahi University got a job at the university's ICT Center before the final results of his undergraduate examination were published.
Momen Khandaker Opi was appointed on an ad-hoc basis.
An office order signed by the university's Acting Registrar Professor Iftikharul Alam Masud was issued in this regard on November 18 last year.
He was recruited as an assistant programmer at the university's ICT Center for six months.
According to the Controller of Examinations, Momen Khandaker was a student in the 2018–19 academic session in the Computer Science and Engineering department. Nearly a month after his appointment, on December 12, his final exam results were published, showing that he passed with a CGPA of 3.20.
The office order states, "Momen Khandaker is appointed to the position of Assistant Programmer at the Rajshahi University ICT Center on an ad hoc basis for six months... This appointment will be effective from the date of joining."
Registrar Iftikharul Alam Masud said he was not in the registrar position at that time. However, he recently received information that a violation of the rules had occurred in this position.
Momen Khandaker said to the media, "After my undergraduate exams, I was appointed in November and joined then. The official results were delayed. However, I provided unofficial documents as proof."
Professor Md Rokanujjam, the head of the Computer Science and Engineering department, said, "I don't know anything about it. So many students of my department get jobs before completing their graduation. I don't know the rules of government jobs. So, I don't want to make any comment about that."
RU VC Professor Saleh Hassan Naqib said, "I just became aware of this matter. I need to check whether he was considered as 'appeared' or not."
When asked whether a candidate awaiting results can get a job, the VC replied, "I had left this matter entirely to the director of the ICT Center. I will discuss the rules with the registrar and the ICT Center director. I am looking into the matter."
ICT Center Director Professor Saiful Islam said, "At that time, we badly needed a programmer to conduct the admission exam properly. As the previous director was changed, his companions were also not interested to work with us. So, I demanded a programmer from the vice chancellor and I got a qualified and experienced person."
When asked about the validity of this appointment, he said he showed "appeared" and got the job. "As per I know many of the employee got job, not only employees, teachers got job at Rajshahi University by showing the "appeared" certificate."
University Grants Commission Chairman Professor SMA Faiz told The Daily Star, "The RU Vice-Chancellor Saleh Hasan Naqib is academically quite sound. So, there is no scope for any irregularities under his authority. The RU VC is not supposed to compromise on academic matters. If any irregularities have occurred, then I certainly hope he will take action."
