New book ‘Next50: Collective Futures’ launched

"Next50: Collective Futures", the largest edited volume on Bangladesh's built environment, was officially launched at BRAC University.

Featuring contributions from 81 authors, including members of the Bangladeshi diaspora, the book spans 49 chapters across nine themes, covering urban transformation, infrastructure, climate resilience, housing, governance, and technology.

The event brought together leading architects, planners, and academics, including Dr. Syed Ferhat Anwar, Prof. Fuad H. Mallick, Dr. Mohammed Zakiul Islam, Dr. Zainab Faruqui Ali, and executive editor Dr. Saimum Kabir. Industry representatives included Naushad Chowdhury, Director, Brand Marketing, and Md. Ibrahim Khalil, AGM, Brand Marketing from Shah Cement, a key supporter. Mahrukh Mohiuddin, Managing Director of The University Press Limited (UPL), also attended.

Executive editors Dr. Tanzil Shafique and Dr. Saimum Kabir emphasised the book's role in bridging research and real-world application, with Shah Cement expressing interest in future collaborations.

The launch, organised by Open Studio and Context BD, served as a networking hub for scholars, policymakers, and industry leaders, fostering discussions over Iftar and dinner.

A live stream extended its reach, ensuring broader engagement with the book's vision for Bangladesh's next 50 years.
