AIUB drama festival showcases satire, suspense and student talent

American International University, Bangladesh (AIUB) hosted a two-day theatre festival titled "Curtains Rise 2025", organised by the AIUB Drama Club in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs.

The event opened with two performances that highlighted the range of student creativity. The first, Election Caricature by noted playwright S. M. Solaiman, delivered a political satire critiquing electoral absurdities. It was followed by an original, silent mime-based murder mystery written by a member of the club, which relied solely on expression and music to tell a story of crime and suspense.

Day one saw attendance from Dr. Ziarat Hossain Khan, Associate Professor and Deputy Director of Student Service and Welfare, and Mohammad Hamidul Haque, Head of the Department of English, alongside faculty and students.

The second day featured two contrasting productions. A stage adaptation of Dracula explored gothic themes and supernatural suspense, while Ek Credit-er Prem, an original comedy, reflected on campus life through the lens of romance and academic pressure. The relatable humour struck a chord with the audience.

The final evening was attended by Dr. Mohammad Zahidul Islam, Registrar, and Dr. Monzur H. Khan, Proctor, along with alumni, faculty and a large student turnout.

Curtains Rise 2025 served as a platform for student expression and cultural engagement, combining political critique, classic literature, and contemporary humour.
