eCAB asks Evaly to explain controversy by 7 days

The e-Commerce Association Bangladesh (eCAB) has recently sent a letter to Evaly asking to explain the recent controversy involving the e-commerce platform by seven working days and asked to state the reasons why its membership will not be suspended.
The letter sought an explanation about complaints from Bangladesh Bank, Ministry of Commerce, Department of Consumer Protection, consumers and merchants, social media and reports of print media and television media against Evaly.
"If it cannot explain properly, its membership will be revoked,'' said Sahab Uddin Shipon, vice president of e-CAB.
This comes amid a recent Bangladesh inspection report that said Evaly had a total asset of Tk 91.69 crore as of March 14. Of the sum, the current asset was Tk 65.17 crore, and the total liability was Tk 407.18 crore, according to a central bank probe. On the day, the liability of Evaly to its customers was Tk 213.94 crore, and to merchants Tk 189.85 crore, said a letter of the commerce ministry to the ACC on July 4.
Last week, the competition authority carried out two investigations against e-commerce company Evaly for alleged embezzlement of funds and breach of competition rules.
The e-CAB also sent to some companies such as Glitters RST Worlds, Green Bangla eCommerce Ltd, Annex Worldwide Limited, Amar Bazar and Excellent World Agro-food and Consumer Ltd as the association deemed these entities as 'Multi-Level Marketing' companies.
Being an MLM company, no company can be a member of e-CAB, said Shipon.
Established in 2014, e-CAB now has over 1500 members.
