Ctg port links with Indo-Pacific maritime information sharing platform

Chattogram Port has been linked with the Indo-Pacific Regional Information Sharing (IORIS) platform as part of efforts to enhance maritime security capabilities.
The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) took the initiative to strengthen multifaceted security measures, focusing on the maritime single-window concept, the CPA said in a press release.
As part of the initiative, the CPA arranged an 11-day training session, which concluded on March 13, on the use of IORIS platform funded by the European Union (EU), according to the release.
IORIS provides partner users with the unique capability to exchange operational information on a diverse range of maritime threats, said CPA Member for Harbour and Marine Captain Ahamed Amin Abdullah.
The port's integration into the modern IORIS platform is also considered a fulfilment of the FAL Convention under the International Maritime Organisation, opined the CPA Member.
A total of 28 trainees from the Shipping Ministry, Bangladesh Navy, and CPA participated in the two-phase training held at Chattogram Port Training Centre.
According to the statement, through this platform, maritime stakeholders worldwide will not only be able to share information but also quickly learn about and communicate regional threats, human trafficking, illegal smuggling, and other maritime crimes.
Addressing the closing ceremony, CPA Chairman Rear Admiral S M Moniruzzaman said, "This training was primarily organised to ensure maritime security and safety in Bangladesh."
Through this training, six trainers in the Maritime Single Window system were created for the first time in Bangladesh. They will be able to provide IORIS training internationally while maintaining global standards, he added.
