Most Adivasi festivals showcase cultural heritage in the
brightest of colours. The fanfare that marks such events
always overshadows the real life experiences and travails
Adivasis put up with on a daily basis. Even in the face
of the danger of extinction, the indigenous people of
Bangladesh remain resolute and show that they are not
only about song, dance and celebrations. While they have
endured a long history of displacement and injustice,
very few steps have ever been taken by the relevant authorities
to secure their place in a majoritarian society that often
fails to ensure the rights of the minority. The recent
Adivasi festival made an attempt to bring into view issues
that have a strong bearing on the existence of the Adivasis.
SWM takes a closer look at displacement, land rights and
the years of living marginally. |
