"No need for coaching centres after adoption of new curriculum"

Education Minister Dipu Moni has said that there will be no need for coaching centers for pre-primary to HSC students after the new curriculum is introduced.

She said this while talking to media after visiting an HSC examination center in the capital this morning (November 6, 2022).

Replying to a question, she said, "There will be the demand for coaching centers always! Because all students are not of the same stage… We are yet to achieve the situation where we can pay equal attention to each and every student or pay as much attention as they need. In a true sense, we're far from this practice."

She said, "There is a need of coaching in some cases. Someone may not understand properly in the class, then he/she can go for coaching. Those students need coaching centres who have no one at home to cooperate or even if they have any, they might be busy."

Parents have obsession for GPA-5 and that's why, there has been a practice of going to the coaching centres, whether it is necessary or not, she added.

The minister said, "In case of the new education system, students may not need to go to coaching centre because they will learn through practical activities. So, I don't think there will be any need for coaching centres. May be, we can change that by changing the education system."

The practice of going to coaching centres cannot be stopped forcibly or by imposing laws, she said.

The new curriculum is going to start in class six and seven from 2023. Next year, it will be started to class eight and nine, then next year it will go to class 10. The entire curriculum will be started by 2025, the education minister said.
